I’ve been down the road most traveled…
I’ve been lazy. I’ve been distracted. I’ve been undisciplined, unfocused and small in my thinking. I’ve not done the things that I knew needed to be done. I’ve talked down to myself. I’ve beat myself up over my failings and shortcomings. I’ve compared myself to others in a negative way. I’ve made excuses. I’ve given in to that little voice that tells me what can’t be done. I’ve even thought about giving up and throwing in the towel a time or two. I’ve had moments where I’ve taken into consideration the low, uninformed, just plain stupid, opinion of others who are not where I want to be. Pigeons CANNOT instruct Eagles on how to soar!
I’ve had to start over a thousand times, hitting the reset, restart, refresh button. I’ve been frustrated, let down, lied to, and flat out disappointed. I’ve entertained doubts, fears and false-hoods. I’ve lost sight of my goals, been separated from my faith and even wandered over to the ambivalent side of life. I’ve tripped myself up multiple times over my ego, my arrogance and my ignorance. Yes, I’ve been guilty of all of these things, but my desire to improve, coupled with some dogged persistence/determination has been my saving grace. I share this because I know you have that same desire to improve and you may have fallen prey to some of the same self sabotaging obstacles.
The cool thing is that every time you decide to move beyond these self imposed limitations, you add another building block toward the life you desire. With every empowering choice you move one step closer toward the life you want and your faith, focus and follow through become that much stronger! The road most travelled will always be available; you just have to get better at taking alternate and more empowering routes. This is why achieving goals, living dreams and fulfilling purpose is so rewarding, because there’s a price that must be paid. And for each of us, that price will be slightly different. But nonetheless we all have to pay the FULL fare, no discounts. I suppose that’s why 2% of the population is self determining and 98% are at the behest of the 2%. There’s plenty of room at the top if you take the road less travelled, it’s the bottom that’s overcrowded.
Which road are you on?
